Instinct is awesome! My dog Finn is reactive and territorial; he had some prior training (mostly for leash walking) but was still fearful and anxious around people indoors. He stayed 2 weeks at Instinct for Camp+Coaching, where his trainer Rebecca helped him learn coping skills. Rebecca gained Finn’s trust so quickly! She was very patient with him and I could tell from the daily photos and videos she sent that he was having a good time and learning a lot. We’ve had some post-camp in-home training sessions as well, to reinforce and extend what he learned. While Finn will always be anxious, he is much less reactive now, and with the home visits I’m gaining skills to help him manage his big feelings. His progress is clear: he can sit quietly in the elevator, and will choose to hang out in his crate when there are people around. Rebecca is a terrific trainer, thoughtful, professional, and truly invested in my dog’s growth. I recommend Instinct (and Rebecca!) so highly, especially for pups who need gentle, non-aversive training methods. We will keep working with Instinct — I just booked another Camp stay for Finn!

We were so impressed with Instinct training and are so thrilled that we used them to help with training for our dog Yogi. We were particularly impressed and thrilled with our experiences with trainer: Samantha Bell-Brown. She was extremely professional – always on time and ready to work with Yogi, always prepared with additional snacks, and constantly checking in in-between sessions to ensure good continuity. She taught us so much about dog training with endless practical tips that worked extremely well. Yogi absolutely adored Sam and misses her so much now that our sessions are over. Sam ensured all sessions were centered around what we and Yogi needed – adapting her tips and sessions to whatever was most important at that time. She helped us with potty training, impulse control, walking with good manners, dropping objects she picked up, relaxing when we are trying to get work done – truly everything. Yogi is the absolute BEST – we have Sam to thank for a lot of that and for helping us become lifelong trainers ourselves! Should we get another puppy or if Yogi needs additional training – we would absolutely use Instinct again and recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful training experience!

We loved our experience with at-home dog training with Greta! She cared so much about us, our new puppy and his well-being. She took our worries about his behavior seriously and provided us with actionable steps to move forward. I would recommend Jay over and over again ! He Was patient and kind and very understanding of my situation and a dog’s intelligence and how our puppy would respond. Jay from Top Dog Training is excellent. I did 10 training sessions with him to help my border collie puppy. The difference from when Maeve started training to our last session is huge. He was very knowledgeable from basic obedience to helping me socialize her to grooming as well as starting some service dog training. Not only did he help with training Maeve, I also learned a ton from Jay that I will be able to use moving forward with her. Astro my 9 month old Goldendoodle loves going to HustlePups! He’s stayed there twice now, both a week long stay. They send daily photos which are adorable, he makes so many friends while there. They’re also super accommodating with scheduling. We had him planned for a two day boarding but had to extend to 5 days the day before we were to pick him up and they were so lovely about it! Will continue to board with them, looking into training with them too!

Leaving our pup with Hustlepups for board and train wasn’t a decision that my partner and I took lightly. The prospect of leaving our little guy in someone else’s hands for weeks of training was something we poured a lot of thought into.

The results were far beyond my expectations. Since that time, we’ve continued to work with Hustlepups whenever we need someone to look after our dog for an extended period of time. Their frequent updates and professional staff leave us at ease.

Everyone is so well versed in dog behavior and balanced training. They’re always ready to give the best advice and honesty. I bring both my dogs here and they’re always so excited to go in and train.

The staff makes training fun and safe. The group classes allow for proper socialization and strengthen the bond between dogs and handlers.

It’s also a great place to chat with other dog minded folks or others with dogs who are struggling with behaviors such as leash-pulling or reactivity.

I would absolutely recommend TMA to anyone who wants to improve their relationship with their dog, anyone who wants to socialize their dog, or anyone struggling with an unwanted behavior.

I’ve used Marfs for a year, 2 packs of 8 plus the evaluation. Over the entire year, never once was my dog able to join the classes, and on top of that, the bandanas that are displayed are not used for the private lessons! Any sport that has levels, even if private, you still earn the bandana. I’m on a limited income, never once was offered a handicap discount, or a discount on the second group of lessons! I feel that if you do the evaluation, then that money could be credited to the purchase of the lessons, or if you sign up, done discount. Very disappointed in that sense. In addition, my package expired, I called 2 days after the expiration date, and I never received a reminder of anything saying that you need to act! I feel i spent a load of money, and not much given back, loyalty, or incentive to come back

Martial Arfs is a great place to bring your pet! They have great dog trainers, a great facility with lots of dog training tools, and a very friendly staff. My puppy learned a lot from only 5-6 sessions. I look forward to my pup learning so much more!

I’ve been to a few dog trainers in the past with my first dog who mostly taught how to teach your dog cues. This school is much more holistic, teaching you how to teach your dog regulation, impulse control, capturing behaviors, and building your relationship with your dog. Rather than just outlining the steps to teach a particular behavior, they explain the theory, principles, and behavioral science of positive reinforcement training. I’ve been extremely impressed and grateful to have found it.

My puppy has attended the socials, day school, adolescent level 1, and a recall workshop and all of the trainers have been extremely knowledgeable, kind, and go above and beyond to be helpful. We especially appreciated how much individual attention and support we got from Suzanne in adolescent level 1. Liz taught our recall workshop and after only one of the three sessions, my puppy improved drastically in her recall. Melissa has been incredibly helpful in helping us choose which programs to attend and explaining the behavioral issues my puppy was displaying. Michelle has given us such detailed and helpful feedback after day school so I can continue building on the skills my puppy is learning there. Day School has been a miracle. My puppy’s leash skills and impulse control have improved so much more rapidly since she started attending. I felt like I was working on training her every minute of the day I wasn’t at work and it was still slow going, but since she started day school, I see marked improvements every week. Day School and the socials have also been an excellent outlet for her to play with other dogs safely (unlike at the dog park which can be unpredictable) and wear herself out which has been sanity saving for me.

Every trainer we have met here has seemed like a true dog lover and excited to help us with our journey, I’m only sorry I can’t recall everyone’s name to mention them specifically in this review, but anyone who works here is obviously an excellent trainer. The administrative staff has also been so lovely and warm and made me feel they are invested in my puppy too! We got to meet Amanda once and I felt she personally cared about me and my puppy even though I’m sure she’s very busy as the owner of the school. It feels not just like a training school, but a community for me and my puppy. I plan to sign my puppy up for every course offered here and would recommend this school highly to anyone.

I have worked with Amanda Gagnon with my new rescue pitbull Macy. I have worked on 1-1 training and done the dayschools. This has been invaluable to me, as a first time dog owner, and with a high energy and challenging rescue. My trainer offered valuable training to ME the owner as well as Macy. She is patient, caring and incredibly knowledgeable. Our sessions are definitely equal parts human therapy and dog training – which is so important. In our first week of ownership she helped me organize a care plan for Macy when I had to go out of town – and she didn’t even know us that well! She has helped me find a reliable and caring regular dogwalker and helped me navigate a seemingly endless stream of health issues and complications. She also loves Macy and has helped her get to the point where she can play with other dogs (mostly!). The dayschools offer a supervised play opportunity, which was critical to me having a bully breed who likes to play rough. They have taught her how to moderate her play style and made me so much more comfortable taking her out and about. Also, she LOVES going to school and then promptly passes out for 3 hours on return. So it gives me an all day win.

Our golden retriever puppy did kindergarten & attended 10 puppy day school sessions here. He LOVED it, to the point where we can’t walk within 2 blocks of the place unless we’re taking him to school or else he starts crying to go! He learned so much, and there were noticeable improvements in his skills after each session. He loved his puppy friends & having this outlet was invaluable to us before he finished all his vaccines.
The only reason why I gave 3 stars is because we didn’t have a great experience with the regular day school (once he was too old for puppy school) so he only went once. Within 30 minutes of getting home after we picked him up he could no longer walk and developed a distended stomach. After X-Rays and vet examination it turns out he had gorged himself on food (no air in his stomach- just ALL food) and it took a full 24 hours before his stomach went down and he could eat again. And then 24 hours of acid reflux and treatment after that. (All up around $700 in vet bills)
We’re still really confused about what happened, but since he is sooo closely supervised at home and it happened so quickly after getting back it just seems most likely something happened at school. It’s super disappointing because we loved sending him here and he just absolutely loved going.

My dog Baci has been going to Amanda Doggy school since she came home from her litter. I still remember her first puppy social I was so worried because she was unvaccinated but they took all the correct measures in ensuring the safety of the puppies. Every since then we have taken multiple classes; group classes and privates with Sam, weekly Adolescent Day school with Gwen and endless adventures at Playgroup. We would have been so lost without the team at AGD, they have help me train and reinforce good dog behavior. Everyone always complements how well behave my dog can be and is really because of the AGD team. I will continue to recommend AGD to anyone who needs help training a dog.

We cannot thank Blake and Dream Come True K9 enough for the incredible transformation we’ve seen in our dog Hudson.
Hudson, at 4.5 years old, was highly leash reactive—he would become extremely stressed and fearful when we encountered other dogs on our walks, making it challenging to walk him peacefully (we live in NYC there are more dogs than people!).
After completing the six-week board and train program with Blake in FL, Hudson is a more confident and calm dog (and so are his humans!)
Since his training, while he still has ‘feelings’ on walks, we now have the tools necessary to correct the behavior and Hudson has the confidence to refocus and move on.

Enola and the DCTK9 team are miracle workers. We recently picked up our 8mo Staffy girl last week and I cannot believe the progress after the 6 week board and train. We dropped her off as an uncontrollable, hyperactive, stubborn little troublemaker and took home a perfect, well mannered, sweet angel. Goals were leash walking, impulse control, basic manners, control of jumping/nipping/pulling, and house training and DCTK9 exceeded all expectations and more.

Prior to DCTK9 , we’ve tried obedience training, apps, and a two week board and train and she just kept regressing and it was becoming very stressful for our household with a 3yo toddler. Dream Come True K9 is the gift that keeps on giving. My staffordshire terrier completed two series of group training courses with Blake in 2017 (?). It was so long ago I can’t quite remember, but I know for sure that the sessions changed my dog and my relationship with my dog. Before the courses, my dog would snap at me, and pull me like crazy on the leash. Plus he was super reactive to other dogs on the street. After the two courses he was much improved, and we were even able to attend «Sosh,» which was a sunday one-hour walk-around the training studio with other owners/dogs. It was so satisfying to see my dog successfully interact with other dogs, and watch Blake correct dogs in the moment when they would make a mistake. So it was educational for the dogs, and their people. Now, all these years later when I bring my dog on vacation to NYC with me, I am still able to leave Mucca there for «Train & Play» and also dog boarding when needed. And what I think is most impressive is how professional the whole experience is from top to bottom. From the email correspondence (Serena, ?) to the handlers. They are legit, and that’s the way my dog is able to succeed in their environment. Most recently I handed my dog off to Jessica, and picked him up from Beat. Both handlers were super calm, professional and seemed invested in my dog’s progress/well being. 100% perfect. Book early because they do fill up. If you’re not taking your dog to DCTK9, what are you even doing?

My wife and I began working with Blake 4 years ago when we rescued our dog, at about 16 weeks old. He instilled some great habits in us as the owners and in Ella as a new puppy. As time went on, and with changes in life circumstances, it became clear to us that Ella needed a boot camp of sorts to turn back into her fun, goofy, relaxed self. We made the decision to send Ella to the 6 week board and train program.

Blake and Zach took amazing care of her and gave her the structure and confidence that she needed. It’s almost hard to believe, as if it was magic… but by day 1 while we watched Ella and her pack of dog buddies via Instagram updates, we already started to see positive changes in her behavior. We loved following along virtually (huge shout out to the team for doing such a great job of always posting updates) and we lit up with excitement every time we saw Ella learning and opening up. We joked with Blake when we dropped off Ella about how she was terrified of the water and all the money would be worth it if he could get her into the pool. Fast forward about 4 weeks, and we see Ella jumping into the pool with Blake to swim a lap. Our jaws were on the floor! This example just speaks to the level of change, and ease of anxiety, that Blake and Zach were able to achieve during the program. We were lucky enough to travel down to FL from NY to do a visit with Ella well into her time in the program. Watching her interact with other dogs and seeing the clear method of communication between her and Blake, which allowed her to take direction very easily, instilled the confidence in ourselves that we needed to continue helping Ella be her best self.

As I write this, we are about 1 week post finishing the program and there are noticeable, dramatic differences in her behavior and ability to take direction. We were able to utilize that clear communication method that I mentioned earlier to easily translate to our relationships with her. To illustrate just one example, Ella used to greet people excitedly at the door with jumping, licking, and the occasional play nipping. She would get so wound up with joy (it’s cute when they are puppies… but not so cute when they are 50 lb Pit Lab mixes!) that it was hard to get her to stop that behavior once it started. Within her first week back home, Ella did jump up on one of our friends who came over, but the difference was, with ONE correction she stopped in her tracks and it didn’t happen again. She understood that the behavior just wasn’t “what we do here anymore” and was able to move on without feeling like she was in trouble or being anxious that she had made a mistake. For us, this tremendous progress is something we feel great about and reinforces our confidence in the reason we entrusted Blake and his team to help not only Ella, but us as her owners!

Ella has the tools she needs to be the dog we want her to be and the dog we know that she wants to be. We have the tools we need to have to be the owners we want to be, and continue to be incredibly proud of her. We cannot recommend Blake enough and would send anyone we know to him in a heartbeat without thinking twice. THANK YOU to Blake and Zach for taking such amazing care of Ella!

Choosing Anthony’s class was the best decision I could of made for my career as a dog trainer. Prior to going to Anthony’s School I had been dog training at Petco and worked as a vet assistant for over a year. His curriculum is not just about training….students get a well rounded education on dogs in general – from birth onward including nutrition, behavior, breeding, first aid and only then, training. Murphy and I started working with Dominik to alleviate reactivity that Murphy was showing on walks & with guests in my home. Dominik took the time to really understand Murphy’s behaviors & triggers, educate me on them & my role in promoting them, and then developed a tailored plan to help us work through these behaviors together and establish confidence in one another. Within one session, I saw a change in Murphy. After several, I’m happy to say that Murphy & I walk with confidence and he’s now far more comfortable with guests in my home. My husband and I are so thankful we found Dominik. In just a few months, both our dogs confidence levels have soared!! Dominik is amazing! We reached out to Dominik to work on our 4 year old dog Forest’s leash pulling. Forest struggled walking on leash, would pull and lunge, and was hard to manage on walks. We did three sessions and it has completely changed Forest’s behavior. We saw the change immediately within the first session. Dominik gave us the tools, technique, and confidence to transform how Forest walks. Now walks are enjoyable and Forest is waking like a pro! We had the best experience and education through School for the Dogs with our pup! We were lucky enough to receive an extraordinarily generous scholarship through the school, and had the chance to try many of their programs. Adam and Amy’s Puppy Kindergarten class was so helpful to us in working with our new puppy. Basic manners and training techniques, how to understand and communicate with her, socialization (plus puppy play times together), and so many additional resources online and in person. I highly recommend the school, and the space is setup perfectly for all the different classes/daycare/playtimes. The store has a wide range of the best products for many of your dog’s needs. I really hope to make it back for more advanced level classes and playdates soon. Thank you all so much!

We rescued our boy Joey who had been terribly neglected and possibly abused, and even though we were giving him as much love and support as we could on our own, we were at a loss in terms of how to handle his behavioral issues. Unfortunately, despite all the interventions that we tried based on our own research, the situation was only getting worse. We loved Joey so much, but we knew that things were not sustainable if they would have continued the way they were going.

We were feeling scared, hopeless, and discouraged. Finally, we found School for the Dogs and Anna, and that’s when things finally started to turn around. Being students with extremely limited resources, we knew that we couldn’t afford to pay for the type of care that Joey needed, and we felt so sad and guilty that we were not able to provide the best possible life for him. When we were approved for the scholarship program, we finally saw the first glimmer of hope for our family.

Anna completely changed our perception of what is possible when it comes to training dogs. Her methodology, which involves lots of positive reinforcement and not punishment, helped to strengthen our relationship with Joey, and to understand his needs, preferences, and communication style better than ever before. It almost feels like she taught us to read his mind, and to anticipate his reactions, which gives us a much better handle on them. She taught us new commands and feasible ways for us to continue implementing Joey’s training on our own. She also helped to guide us through the intimidating process of seeking out medication for Joey, helping to round out the support that he needs.

Today, we are so proud and grateful to report that things are finally getting better, not worse. Joey is moving in the right direction, and we are more confident than ever before that we know what to do to help him be calmer and to even keep himself under control. I was most impressed with how Anna employs principles of psychology into her training, recognizing both the individualized and universal needs of her students (including dogs and humans alike). I used to joke that it seems like she is ‘psychic’ with dogs, but now I understand that by knowing what to look for and how to approach different situations, anyone can learn to communicate and work with their dog more effectively, no matter how far-gone things may once have appeared. We will be eternally thankful to School for the Dogs for the amazing work that they do, as well as to the generous benefactors of the scholarship program for enabling us to attain the resources we needed to finally enjoy greater peace and happiness in our home. We can’t say enough good things about the caring staff at School for the Dogs! Dolly RUNS to school when she knows she is going there, and it’s no wonder as she is so excited to be in the care of such excellent trainers. She has learned so much in her private lessons and in her Day School sessions with her favorite humans, Adam, Erin, and Madeline. She is more obedient, confident, and most importantly, happy. We implicitly trust the staff’s approach, expertise, and thoughtful care in all they do for Dolly and all her fellow doggy students!

We brought our dog to Sidewalk Psychos, and learned so much from Anna on how to train him using positive reinforcement. When he’s triggered, he’s not interested in treats, so she taught us alternatives that get his attention.

The space is neat and clean, and the trainers are kind and attentive. I’d definitely recommend anyone with a dog of any age to reach out to find out which trainings will work best for them!

Andrea Arden Dog Training was the biggest and best step forward for my pup Jasper and me. As a very young rescue, my pup needed guidance in puppy socialization and confidence building, as well as a job to play hard at. The trainers were amazing, force free and positive, winning Jasper over before I told them about her stranger danger-she loved them! This incredible team set us on the right path-Agility for life! I only have AMAZING things to say about Hannah. From our very first session, she displayed an unparalleled level of expertise and dedication to the development of our Bernese Mountain Puppy, George.

George quickly mastered foundational commands such as sitting and responding to his name after session #1. After three sessions, George knew how to sit, stay, «leave it», lie down, roll over, paw, spin, among others.

Hannah’s approach extends well beyond obedience training. She goes into depth with schedule management, effective potty training techniques, crate training (which before Hannah was SO challenging for us!!), and walk-training strategies.

I have a small dog with medical issues that has never stayed with anyone other than my mom (needs medicine at specific times during the day and someone to be perceptive of his needs). After meeting Andrea and her team at a class, I quickly became comfortable that I could trust them and not think twice. The board & train program was so impactful for him and I was able to be away without a worry – I am so grateful! Andrea is incredible and so is everyone who works with her.

Our experience with Andrea Arden Dog Training was exceptional. Their puppy playgroup program provides a well-structured environment for puppies to interact and form good habits early on. We also booked private training sessions with Lara, who taught us invaluable tips and tricks to keep Sally engaged during walks in the hectic NYC streets. Lara’s passion for her job was evident and infectious. Following this, we boarded our golden retriever puppy, Sally, with Andrea, which solidified our trust in their high level of commitment and care. The first thing any dog owner should realize is dog training is more about training us, the owners. It takes daily work, patience and space for mistakes and corrections. Andrea Arden is a wonderful dog training organization that supports the training of the owner as much as the training of the dog.

They take the responsibility seriously. The price for the class is worth every single penny and it’s very competitively priced. The classes are small which allows for one on one for each training point; they understand how to manage personalities (of both dogs and dog owners); they provide homework that is challenging and engaging and really forces you to pay attention to how you are working with your animal, which really in the end helps you develop both a passive and an active communication style with your dog. They teach you how to read your dog and set the animal up for success. All of their trainers have very different training approaches but together have a fused style of education, so you can take any class that works for your schedule. I refer them to everyone and even though my dog is at the Good Citizen stage of training, I still keep in touch with my dog’s trainer for tips and skill brush ups.

Andrea Arden has set me and my dog up for success and has provided me with a tool to ensure my dog is a proven “good boy”.
