Cartooning graduate from this school. Amazing 4 years spent here. The students and staff are generally kind and outgoing. I've made so many friends here! The teachers were wonderful and always went through great lengths to make sure you are included in the class. The school also gives out internship opportunities throughout the school year to make sure you get work experience. My main issues with this school are the vaping inside school bathrooms especially during lunch, the lack of options for lunch (usually just chicken tenders) and the number of stairs climbing transitioning between classes (the school has 12 floors I believe, generally expect to climb 1-5 floors to get to each class). If you live in NYC and love art, I suggest you apply for this school because you will learn so much here to improve your art skills.

2018 Cartooning Alumni here, and when I look back at my time in Art and Design, it's with fondness. My major teacher was an absolute gem and inspiration! I still draw today, and I hope current students are able to be inspired in the same way I was

This school does the most to prepare you for a path/career in Visual Arts. A stellar program for anything related to that. While academics are not the top in the city, it is still more than sufficient. Plus, they offer a wide range of electives in your Junior and Senior years. Honestly, why would you be so fixated on that when it’s a school for Art. If you go there to get a 1600 on the SAT please go elsewhere (although it’s possible too). It’s like going to a Chinese restaurant expecting Mexican food. Whoever here trashes on this school’s program just didn’t make the most of it. You have to go in with a mindset for ART, or else you won’t enjoy it to the fullest.Faculty can vary in personality, and few are actually rude or prejudiced (yet you will always find those people anywhere you go). Super diverse community overall. The most down-to-earth/cultured art high school in NYC. As someone who graduated from the Illustration program, this school is guaranteed to produce well rounded artists by the end of their time here.

I went to this school in the 80s and as someone mentioned it was diverse and everyone in this era of the school got along.I was of course welcomed by the seniors who used to rap battle at lunch time when I was a freshman. The education I received was fair. The thing is you had to EARN your grades nothing was given back then.Great School with LOTS of Great Memories
