these guys really care about their craft and are so honest and kind. i went in thinking i'd have to pay a couple hundo for a weekslong residency for my controller (they've been busy!) to replace an unresponsive headphone cue button. they tested it in front of me and also suspected it might need to be checked in, but as a hail mary they decided to work in a little contact cleaner and gave it a little compressed air and voila, my button was back in action and they sent me on my way without charge, having won a lot of good will i dropped coffee money in their tip jar in sincere gratitude. once this beginner dj starts playing real parties with drink-spill-on-equipment risk, dj fix will be my go-to for the real fixes

Eleven months ago I took two Technics 1200 turntables and a Pioneer DJM500 mixer to DJ Fix for repair. I spent approximately $970. I picked up all 3 in mid-October. Once home, I realized the mixer was still having issues. In mid-November, I returned the mixer to be repaired again. In an email on 12/7/2020 Jon Hildenstein (owner) blamed me for the new issues. From his email, "In other words the problems are due to a new issue which has occurred since the time of pickup on Oct 10. It appears something fell on the mixer, something heavy was placed on the mixer, or the mixer fell face down."In front of him I wrapped the mixer in bubble wrap for transport back to my apartment, where it sat on my console, still wrapped in bubble wrap. Nothing, aside from transporting the mixer occurred. I didn’t drop it, it didn’t fall, etc. Also, it’s worth mentioning, for approximately 7 years I traveled to gigs multiple times with this mixer. I always took great care with it and I never had issues with it. The fact that the mixer shows so little wear is a testament to that.On 1/6/2021, I was informed the mixer was ready for pickup. I did not get around to returning to Brooklyn to pick up the mixer until mid-March, given multiple personal and professional complications due to the Covid pandemic the world is still going through.Friday, 7/23/2021, I finally had enough personal time available to hook the mixer up again. Immediately, I wasn’t hearing anything from the third turntable, plugged into the 4th channel. I flipped the toggle switch that alternates between a mic input and the third turntable input. The connection to the toggle switch was loose. I needed to move it slightly from left-to-right to get any output. (I videoed this and emailed it to Jon.) Also, the headphone jack, one of the original issues, still had a short in it. This wasn’t fixed the first time. And, it wasn’t fixed the second time!I sent an email to Jon/DJ Fix on 7/23/2021 describing the issues I was still having with the mixer. On 7/26/2021Jon emailed and I called him immediately after reading. Jon maintains I damaged the mixer (again) by hitting it on a counter while I was wrapping it in bubble wrap, at his shop. Given that and the elapsed time he said he’d treat any further work as a new issue. I told him that if he’d seen me handling the mixer, that he’d just worked on, in such a fashion, he should have said something!!!!! “Dude, you might want to put more care into how you're handling your mixer.” I’ve worked in IT since 1987, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to correct/coach/scold someone about improper handling hardware. However, and more to the point, I don’t believe my handling of the mixer was such that it would cause these continuing issues. In order to get proof of Jon’s claim of my poor handling of the mixer, I emailed DJ Fix requesting security camera footage of when I picked up the mixer. In an email, I was told, DJ Fix only keeps security video for 30 days.Again, Jon said he had to stick with company guidelines on his/their 30 day warranty policy. This is where Jon’s and my view of the world vastly differs. Since March, 2020 EVERYONE’S lives have been turned upside down. We’ve had family emergencies, work emergencies, health emergencies, had to adjust to living under lockdown and some of us have been forced to still travel which, trust me, turns your life upside down everytime you do. Until a couple of months ago I had to quarantine for 2 weeks when I left the state. All this left me with little time to take care of personal tasks.Should I have hooked up my mixer the second I got home with it? In hindsight, absolutely!!Will I use DJ Fix again? No. Would I recommend DJ Fix? Again, no. There are too many other options in NYC. Jon’s inability to be empathetic, especially with a customer who’d spent nearly $1,000 in his shop AND in the face of a worldwide pandemic, which has turned lives upside down, says volumes about him...and DJ Fix’s values.Pic and Video of mixer attached.
