Tucked away near the Alvin Ailey dance center on 9th avenue, it’s easy to miss along the left side of street facing north.I discovered the shoe store 12 years ago when I was a resident of the neighborhood. It’s run and owned by Alex, an immigrant to the United States from Uzbekistan. He’s a very interesting character, indeed.Don’t let the ramshackled appearance of the store throw you off. Alex’s knows his trade very well. His workmanship is exceptional and costs a pretty penny but is well worth the excellent finish you get. If you are cheeky and grew up in Asia, like me, you’ll ask for a bargain or discount to get a good price. Alex’s turnover time is fast. Just remember he is closed on Saturdays but open the rest of days of the week. He repairs bags, boots plus luggage too I understand.I’ve had my shoes from Christian LeBoutin to Bata all repaired by this master of his trade. Enjoy your visit chez Alex at Perfect 10.
