The Dermatology Specialists - Upper West Side

This place is an absolute mess!! Avoid it at all costs. My experience has been nothing but a nightmare. In 2022, I saw a doctor here who was so terrible that I left the office in tears. I wrote a review at the time detailing my experience, and the office manager reached out, offering for me to return free of charge to give them another chance (and take down my review).I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and went back. Months later, they sent me a bill for both visits. I paid for the first visit but called to remind them the second was supposed to be comped. They assured me it would be taken care of, but six months later, I started receiving bills again.This cycle has repeated for years: bills show up, I call, they promise to fix it, and then the bills start again. I went to the office in person, only to be told that the office manager who made the promise was no longer there, and there was no documentation of the arrangement. Why would I make this up?Now, I’m being told to contact yet another person, and they’re still claiming that due to poor record keeping, I owe the money. This level of incompetence is absurd.I deeply regret going back after my first disastrous visit. Do yourself a favor and go to literally any other dermatologist in the city. This place is not worth the headache.

Beware that while the doctors and techs are all good and seem to be very well qualified, you will be inundated with emails and texts, the moment you step foot in the office. Not just a little, but like every other day. You'd think you could unsubscribe, but often it's statements that they send time and time and time again. Incredibly annoying.

An amazing experience each time, they are efficient and care about your journey. Paulina is super knowledgeable, and listens to me as an advocate for myself. She cares, and is willing to collaborate in my treatment. As well as using new approaches I’ve never thought of. All in all they are a great practice. I think I found my forever Dermatologist

Dr Alison Gruen is the best! I have been her patient for years. She is personable and knowledgeable. And I like that she doesn’t make a fuss out of every little thing.

The office call center is very disorganized. I had to call the office to get my results 1.5 months after I was told I would receive them. Also received conflicting information multiple times on when to book appointments, whether I needed a new referral, etc.I also had a nurse that I only spoke to once in the lobby (she was never in any of my actual appointments) write a passive aggressive note in my chart.Unfortunately even though the doctor and the rest of the staff were nice and professional, I will not be returning to this office after this experience and the general disorganization concerning patient information.
